While most of next year’s team is on campus practicing, one key member of the team, Tyrese Proctor, has been absent. Instead, Proctor has been participating in the 2022 FIBA Asia Cup.
Not only does this give the Australian guard the opportunity to represent Australia, he is also gaining invaluable experience that will help him be even more prepared for the collegiate level.
Proctor has played a major role in helping Australia sweep Group A. After struggling from the field in Australia’s opening matchup against Jordan, Proctor has turned it on in the last two games.
Against Saudia Arabia, Proctor was Australia’s 2nd leading scorer, finishing with 15 points (5/10 FG, 3/6 3PT). In the following game against Indonesia, Proctor led Australia with 15 points (5/11 FG, 3/6 3PT). He also added four rebounds, two assists, and two steals.

Duke-bound combo guard Tyrese Proctor had 15 points in 17 mins in the Australian senior national team's win vs. Saudi Arabia (2/4 2FG, 3/6 3FG, 2/2 FT). Proctor’s advanced skill set has been on full display in this tournament. His ability to create offense for both himself and his teammates has been apparent throughout. These highlights provide a brief preview of what is to come in Durham in next season. The skilled guard is going to be a very important part to next year’s team.
Proctor will be back in Action on Thursday, July 21st when Australia takes on the winner of Japan vs. Philippines.
