Duke extends offer to JJ Starling

Per Andrew Slater, Duke has offered JJ Starling. Starling is a four-star point guard in the class of 2022. Per 247Sports composite rankings, he is the 54th ranked player, and 9th ranked point guard in the class.

Duke has now offered three players in the class of 2022. In addition to JJ Starling, Duke has also offered a pair of five-star prospects in Dariq Whitehead and Dereck Lively.

The six-foot-two, 170 pound guard is a smooth operator offensively. An effective scorer at all three levels, Starling is a threat wherever he is on the floor. He is just as effective off the dribble as he is in catch and shoot situations.

Starling owns an impressive midrange game. He can stop on a dime and displays a soft touch on midrange jumpshots. When he gets to the rim, he is very adept at finishing at tough angles.

He can create for himself in a variety of ways, but he is also a playmaker for others. At this stage, he is more comfortable looking for his own shot, but is more than capable of setting up his teammates. His versatility makes him an ideal combo guard, someone who can comfortably play either back court spot.

Defensively, Starling is solid. He loves to pressure the ball. He projects to be a good defender at the next level.

Starling has the tools to be a terrific collegiate point guard. He projects as someone who will spend at least two seasons at the college level, and it would not surprise if Starling turned into a four year player.

Other schools to offer Starling include Maryland, Syracuse, Stanford, Alabama, Miami, Sienna, and St. John’s. As it stands now, there are no crystal ball predictions for where Starling will attend college.

He has a chance to be a very good college player. Whoever lands Starling will be gaining a terrific back court addition.
