Duke-Wake Forest Game Preview

After narrowly escaping against Boston College, Duke will look to move to 3-0 in ACC play with a win over Wake Forest. With a win, Duke would have put together a three game winning streak for the first time this season. Coach K will be back on the sidelines for this game.

Wake Forest is the only team in the ACC with fewer games played than Duke this season. The Demon Deacons went over a month without a game, spanning from November 27th to December 31st. Wake Forest has had a bit of time to work off the rust, with 3 games played since the 31st of December. They come into this game with a 3-2 record.

What to Watch For:

Can Wendell Moore put together back to back strong performances?

Wendell Moore had far and away his best game of the season against Boston College. A second straight strong game from Moore would go a long way in instilling even more confidence.

Strength vs Strength

Both Wake Forest and Duke have done a great job of forcing steals. Both teams rank top 20 in the country in steals forced per game with Wake Forest forcing 10.0 per game and Duke forcing 9.5 per game. Protecting the ball and avoiding lazy passes will be a key to this game.

How does Duke start the game?

Potentially due to the long layoff prior to the Boston College game, Duke got off to a very slow start in their last game. Regardless of the reason for the slow start, it is something that cannot become a trend. The second half was much better for Duke and they will look to build on that momentum.

Assist:Turnover Ratio

Despite Duke’s two game winning streak, the team has done a poor job of generating more team assists than turnovers. Duke recorded 8 team assists and 8 turnovers against Notre Dame and followed that up with 15 assists and 14 turnovers against Boston College. Duke will look improve in this aspect against Wake Forest.
